Standing out

Before I decided to start a blog, I did a lot of research about blogging and how to be successful. One step I missed, was choosing a platform that was unique and would therefore attract an audience. After I posted my first post, I googled my blog to see if I could find it, if I weren't me. Guess what... I couldn't. Not only are there a TON of Yooper bloggers out there, but there a TON more Yooper girl bloggers... with essentially the same mind set as me.

I hope to be able to find a way to stand out amongst the crowd. I have followed a few of these bloggers that are similar to me, hopefully I can find a way to differentiate myself from them and gain a following of my own. I wish you well... wish me luck!

In the Beginning

God's Country is a relative term. Most people use it to refer to that one place that brings them serenity, no matter the circumstances. Whether or not you have a place like that, you should know that 906 is God's area code. Up here in the north we like to wax poetic about how amazingly wonderful the UP is. And you know what, we aren't wrong.

I am a traveler. I have a gypsy soul and there is no other place I would rather call home than the Upper Peninsula. I served in the Navy for four years, and traveled the world on Uncle Sam's dime...and this is STILL the place I choose to live. I have one of those blessed lives that allow me to live wherever I see fit, and this is where I will stay. Do I have you convinced? Do you understand my commitment to this place? Stick with me, and I'm sure you will.

I have decided that for those that aren't fortunate enough to live in their "God's Country", I am being very selfish by keeping all the wonder and excitement that this haven has to offer to myself. From here on out I am going to share with y'all, the adventures I find myself on during my day to day life. I really want this to be a blog for all of you. I am here...I get to see it...and live it. What part of the UP are YOU interested in? What adventures do YOU dream of? Let me know in the comments and I will make a list. I will do my best to fulfill the requests. Is there a particular waterfall you want to see? A hilltop you've always wanted to climb? An animal species you have always wanted to photograph in their natural habitat? Tell me all about it! I have a camera and WILL travel. Nothing in the UP is off limits. Please fill free to live vicariously through me! 

I hope to share with y'all some informative history as well as the fun stuff. Colorful characters straight out of a sitcom, hole in the wall dive bars that are welcoming to all, and dark woods that only the bravest of Yoopers dare to enter. Adventure awaits and I can't wait to share it all with you!
